Basic Numerology Calculations

If you can do arithmetic, you can do numerology calculations.

By "arithmetic", I mean adding numbers together and subtracting numbers from each other. No division or multiplication is required for numerology calculations.

Of course, you need to know what to add and what to subtract. This article will describe a few of those. Others are described within the articles that talk about the specific numerology chart positions you may be interested in.

Generally, a calculator is used to do the arithmetic.

The calculator may be an electronic calculator, a tool you have at your desk. Or it may be an online calculator somewhat like many this website provides for free.

If you are skilled in such things, the calculations can be done with pen or pencil on paper. As stated earlier, numerology calculations are arithmetic additions or subtractions, no division or multiplication.

There are numbers to calculate (as in birth dates) and there are letters (as in names). Before a letter is calculated, it is assumed to be represented by a number. A letter-number correlation chart is further below.

It is important to check your calculated results to verify they are correct. A number incorrect by as little as one can make a lot of difference in a numerology reading. Results can be checked by redoing the calculations or, for many chart position numbers, with the professional numbers calculator.

Numerology Chart Positions

A numerology chart has many places for numbers. The places for numbers are generally referred to as positions — each position represented by a number.

Position examples are:

The number representing the person's life path.
The number representing the person's destiny.

Reducing a Number to a Single Digit

Not for all numerology chart positions, but for most, the number representing the position must be a single-digit number.

For those positions, multi-digit numbers are reduced to a single digit.

The reduction is accomplished by adding together the digits of the number. If the result is also a multi-digit number, add the digits together again. Keep doing that until the result is a single-digit number.

Here is an example for the number 159:

1+5+9 = 15
  1+5 = 6

The multi-digit number 159 reduces to the single digit 6.

A Letter-Number Correlation Chart

Before a name can be calculated, the letters of the name are correlated to a number. Arithmetic operations can be performed on the name by using the numbers assigned to the individual letters.

Here is a correlation chart:

As an example, let's calculate the total of the name Daiy Jane Fictive. The result is reduced to a single digit.

Daiy Jane Fictive
4197 1155 6932945 = 71
                    7+1 = 8

The name's total is 71. The number 71 reduces to the single digit 8.

The total of the name reduced to a single digit, by the way, is the person's destiny number.

Master Numbers

As indicated earlier, numbers are not always reduced to a single-digit number. Here is the exception you are likely to encounter most often.

There are five numerology chart positions that are referred to as core numbers. The energy represented by the core numbers generally have the most effect on a person of all positions in their entire personal numerology chart.

The core numbers may contain what is referred to as master numbers. Master numbers are certain two-digit numbers: 11, 22, and 33.

For the five positions of the core numbers: If the total, or a result during the process of reducing the total, is one of the master numbers, then the number for that chart position is the master number, not the single-digit that would have resulted if the reduction process had been continued.

Here is an example for the number 119:

1+1+9 = 11
  1+1 = 2

When 119 is the total for one of the core number positions, the reduction stops at the number 11. Only if 119 is the total of a non-core number position does reduction continue to the single-digit result.
