Affinity Numerology : Using Numerology
Working With Multi-digit Numbers
Numerology is about any and all numbers. (Numbers expressed in hexadecimal, binary, and other numbering systems can be converted to decimal numbers for numerology interpretations.)
Generally, numerology focuses on single-digit numbers 0 through 9 when determining the energy they represent.
To work with a multi-digit number, it's foundation number may be determined. The energy the foundation number represents is then interpreted for the meaning.
Using the foundation number is a convenience when working with multi-digit numbers.
But the foundation number doesn't tell the whole story.
A multi-digit number's foundation number can be used to determine the greater portion of the meaning. But there is uninterpreted meaning left.
As an example, the foundation number of the the multi-digit number 143 is the foundation number 8. The foundation number is obtained by adding together all the digits of the multi-digit number. Thus, 1+4+3 = 8, showing that 8 is derived from 143.
For many numerology readings, especially limited free readings generally found online, an interpretation of the energy represented by the foundation number does the job. More in-depth readings may have interpretations for the energy of the multi-digit number in addition to the foundation derived from it.
Two things are addressed in this article:
-
Calculating foundation numbers from multi-digit numbers (and from names and phrases that yield multi-digit numbers).
-
Interpreting multi-digit numbers and the foundation numbers derived from them.
As stated, foundation numbers are single-digit numbers derived from multi-digit numbers. For some specific personal numerology chart positions, the numbers 11, 22, or 33 may also be a foundation number.
Calculating foundation Numbers From Multi-Digit Numbers
Earlier, there was the example of the foundation number 8 being derived from the multi-digit number 143. This was the calculation.
1+4+3 = 8
Depending on the multi-digit number, two or more calculations may need to be done before the result is a foundation number. The number 846 is an example.
8+4+6 = 18 1+8 = 9
In this case, the foundation number 9 is derived from the multi-digit number 846 through two calculations.
And one more example, this time using the number 5699.
5+6+9+9 = 29 2+9 = 11 1+1 = 2
The foundation number 2 is derived from the number 5699 through three calculations.
To calculate names and phrases, each letter has the value of its place in the alphabet. The letter "A" has the value 1 and the letter "Z" has the value 26.
As an example how to obtain a foundation number from a name, let us use the name Daiy Jane Fictive:
D a i y J a n e F i c t i v e 4 1 9 25 10 1 14 5 6 9 3 20 9 22 5 4+1+9+25+10+1+14+5+6+9+3+20+9+22+5 = 143 1+4+3 = 8
As you can see, the values of the letters are added together. Then, the multi-digit number's foundation number is obtained.
Most numerology readings, especially free readings, interpret the energy of the number 8, but not the 143.
Interpreting the energy represented by the multi-digit number 143, in addition to the foundation number 8, could enhance the numerology reading.
The multi-digit numbers calculator can be used to determine foundation numbers. It will also accept names and phrases for calculation.
Interpreting Multi-Digit Numbers
When interpreting multi-digit numbers, the energy represented by the foundation number derived from the multi-digit has precedence. Then, each of the digits in the multi-digit number has a higher precedence than the digit following it.
Let's take the number 143 as an example.
143 reduces to the number 8.
The energy represented by the foundation number 8 takes precedence.
The energy represented by the first digit of the multi-digit number, the number 1, takes the next precedence.
The energy represented by the number 4 takes the next precedence.
The energy represented by the number 3 takes the final precedence.
The meaning of any number calculator demonstrates this:
The number 143 is composed of the digits 1, 4, and 3. The foundation number is 8.
Here are the calculations to determine the foundation number:
1+4+3 = 8
The numerology energy represented by the number 143 is a composite. It includes the energy represented by the foundation number and also the energy represented by the individual digits.
See the following articles for interpretations of the energy represented by the foundation number 8 and each unique digit in the number 143. The foundation number is listed first.
The foundation number energy always has more force or capacity than the energy represented by the digits of the number being reduced. The relative amount each contributes to the whole could be represented by this graph:
Thus, the 143 energy contains:
- a large dose of 8 energy such as business, realism, and developing procedures,
- plus a dose of 1 energy such as independence, leadership, and exploration,
- plus a dose of 4 energy such as procedure, mindfulness, and diligence,
- plus a dose of 3 energy such as creative self-expression, charisma, and optimism.
The blend results in an energy unique to the number 143.

Interpretations of the energy represented by multi-digit numbers can be useful for understanding the larger meaning of the number, along with interpretations of the energy represented by their foundation numbers.
