Finding Master Numbers

A master number is a two-digit foundation number, 11, 22, or 33. It has additional or enhanced influence on a person beyond what its related single-digit foundation number generally has.

But not all 11, 22, or 33 numbers are master numbers.

The number 11 foundation number is a master number that is related to the number 2 foundation number. The number 22 is related to number 4. And the number 33 is related to the number 6 foundation number.

Before a master number can occur in other positions of someone's personal numerology chart, the same master number must be in a core number position.

When a master number is found within the core numbers, then that master number at other positions of the personal numerology chart is more likely to have influence.

The energy of master numbers in the core positions have the most effect.

The influence for master numbers in other positions results from a resonance with the number in the core position. They enhance or encourage each other, resulting in energy with more effect than the number energy would have by itself.

When none of the core numerology chart positions are calculated to foundation numbers 11, 22, or 33, those numbers in all other positions of the personal numerology chart are converted to foundation numbers 2, 4, or 6, respectively.

As an example, let's suppose that during the process of calculating a person's personal year, the number 11 shows up. If that person does not have a master number 11 as one of their core numbers, then a further calculation is done. The final calculation would be 1+1=2, resulting in the foundation number 2.

Master numbers do not occur often. Without a master number in core positions, all positions (except those with a letter instead of a number) in a personal numerology chart are calculated to produce a single-digit foundation number.

When doing the calculations of a chart position, and the number immediately before the final calculation step is 11, 22, or 33, it may be a master number. It that case, calculation for that position stops.

But 11, 22, or 33 in other chart positions are master numbers only if a master number is present in the chart as a core number.

How to Calculate Master Numbers

The master numbers calculator was created to do the calculations for you.

If you would like to do them yourself, here is how. (See the How to Calculate the Foundation Number article first for an understanding of how to reduce numbers when doing numerology calculations.)

For the three core name numbers, see How to Calculate Numerology Name Numbers — Add the value of each letter of the name.

For the birth day core number, if the day of the month is 11 or 22, it has a core number.

For the life path number, reduce the month, day, and year numbers separately. If any of those reduce to 11, 22, or 33, do not reduce the number any further.

If the separately reduced name numbers total to 11, 22, or 33, the life path number is a master number.

Here are a few examples of life path calculations;

  1. April 12, 1988

    month: April = 4, already reduced to a single digit. day: 1+2=3 year: 1988 = 1+9+8+8=26; 2+6=8 4 + 3 + 8 = 15; 1+5=6 The life path number is 6.
  2. January 20, 1988

    month: January = 1, already reduced to a single digit. day: 20 = 2+0=2 year: 1988 = 1+9+8+8=26; 2+6=8 1 + 2 + 8 = 11, no more reduction because 11 is a master number. The life path number is 11.
  3. November 3, 1988

    month: November = 11, no more reduction. day: 3 is already reduced to a single digit. year: 1988 = 1+9+8+8=26; 2+6=8 11 + 3 + 8 = 22, no more reduction because 22 is a master number. The life path number is 22.

Living Up to Master Numbers

How to live up to master number requirements is a question received from time to time. Here is the answer:

Master numbers don't require you to live up to them.

Like all numbers, master numbers represent certain numerology energy. The energy is there, available in case the person wants to use it. The energy of the single-digit foundation number that the master number relates to (as described earlier) is also always present — but does not have the enhanced influence of master number energy.

The article about master number potentials, written specifically for people with master numbers, talks more about this.

A Master Numbers Calculation Tool

The free online master numbers tool was created to let you search for master numbers without manually doing all the calculations.

If you wonder whether or not what appear to be master numbers in your chart really are master numbers, the tool can do a search and provide you with an answer.
